COSTA RICA LATIN AMERICA
ANDAZ PAPAGAYO
This intimate 153 room sanctuary resort sits above the scenic Guanacaste coast and is infused with a uniquely organic style
perfectly suited to the surrounding natural environment. Modern
yet unstructured forms are found throughout the design elements comprising this breathtaking property. A significant portion of the existing vegetation was preserved with the buildings and outdoor spaces nestled accordingly into the site's dramatic hillside aspect.
Two swimming pool areas...one more family active and the other more adult passive...grace the project though both are closely related to striking pavilion styled restaurants which make the most of the
tropical climate. An almost residential scale is purposely provided for in regards to such features as the poolside lounge terraces that accommodate only one row of chaises to afford all guests with a true sense of intimacy and relaxation. Shallow water shelves create a playful place for lounging along the pool's edge from which one descends into the deeper water by long curvilinear steps. Native boulders from the site act as sculpture-like groupings placed artfully within and at the edge of the swimming pools. Overflow infinity edges are used along the outer limits of the pools to blend pool, sky and sea as one. An event lawn highlighted by the dramatic architecture of the Meeting Pavilions is surrounded by indigenous
and other climate appropriate tropical planting. This approach also applies to the vegetation found throughout the resort...most notably the secluded Spa Complex which features elevated boardwalks linking treatment pavilions that appear to nearly float over the landscape below.
